Seed Library

The West Florida Public Libraries Seed Library is a free resource available at all library locations for patrons to take and share vegetable, herb and flower seeds with the community, while supplies last.

How does it work?

  1. Choose your seeds. Check out up to 5 packets at a time.
  2. Plant your garden. Return any unused seeds from the borrowed packet.
  3. Save your seeds that your plants produce to donate back to our Seed Library. This step is optional but highly encouraged as it keeps our Seed Library going!

Seed donation guidelines:

  • Seed donations are encouraged, but not required. Return dry, cleaned seeds from healthy, open-pollinated plants when possible.

Information and Policies

  • Library users may take up to five packets of seeds at a time.
  • Seeds are “checked out” on the honor system, with the expectation that gardeners will collect and return seeds to the seed library when possible.
  • A library card is not required to check out seeds.
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult to check out seeds. Note: Seeds can create a choking hazard for small children and should not be consumed.
  • West Florida Public Libraries are not responsible for mislabeling or misrepresentation of donated seeds.
  • West Florida Public Libraries are not responsible for the misuse or mishandling of seeds, the viability of seeds or the accuracy with which seeds reproduce, as cross-pollination may happen during the course of plant production.
  • Information about seeds has been obtained from the companies producing the seeds or from donating individuals. Planting instructions, estimated growing times and description of plants may vary.
