West Florida Public Libraries has introduced a new Vinyl Listening Room, offering the public a place to slow down, listen to music, and experience the unique appeal of physical media.
For those who remember the ritual of putting a record on a turntable, or anyone curious to experience it for the first time, the new listening room provides an opportunity to enjoy music in a more intentional setting. Vinyl has long been valued by audiophiles for its distinctive sound and the hands-on experience that comes with listening to an album from beginning to end. The library's growing collection of Vinyl LPs is designed to encourage that kind of focused listening experience.
Located on the second floor of the Pensacola Library, the Vinyl Listening Room is open to the public and available for use according to our study room policy. The room the room accommodates up to two and is equipped with a stereo turntable and headphone splitter so visitors may listen to the same record together. Instructions for operating the record player are available on the unit, and staff are happy to assist visitors who need help learning how to use the system.
The collection currently contains 300 albums and continues to grow. WFPL has curated a diverse collection to ensure there is something for everyone. Records include jazz, classical, R&B, pop, rock, reggae, rap, country, soundtracks, holiday music, and more. Visitors can browse the Vinyl Record collection to explore the available offerings.
For visitors who aren't quite ready to dive into the world of vinyl, the library also maintains a large collection of music CDs.
The new listening room is another way WFPL continues to serve as a source of information and entertainment while providing spaces for the community to learn, discover, create, and connect.
