Registration Policies

SECTION 1 – General

1.1   West Florida Public Libraries issues library cards to all eligible individuals without regard to race, national origin, color, religion, sex, economic status, disability, or age.

1.2   All registration and circulation records are kept confidential in accordance with Florida Statute 257.261.

1.3   Library cards are not transferable and are not to be used by others. This policy ensures patrons’ confidentiality and expedites service. The only exceptions are the following:

    1. Homebound cardholders may designate someone to use their card to check out materials for them.
    2. A parent of a minor child may use the minor’s card to check out materials for the child.

1.4   Patrons must present their library card to use all library services.

 

SECTION 2 – Library Cards

2.1   Resident library cards are available at no charge to anyone who

    1. Lives in or owns property in Escambia County
    2. Owns a business in Escambia County
    3. Works for the City of Pensacola or Escambia County

Resident library cards renew every two years at which time personal information is verified and all fines and charges are to be paid in full.

2.2   Short-term library cards are available at no charge to anyone who

    1. Is employed at a public or private school in Escambia County(card expires in one year)
    2. Is in the military and works at a military base in Escambia County(card expires in one year)
    3. Attends any public or private school in Escambia County and can provide a current class schedule or school ID (card expires at the end of the semester)
    4. Is visiting Escambia County for 3 or more weeks and can provide a lease agreement (card expires at the end of the lease period)
    5. Is in a treatment program in Escambia County and can provide an official letter verifying his or her address (card expires in three months)
    6. Is living in an Escambia County shelter and can provide an official letter from the shelter verifying his or her address (card expires in three months)

Short-term library cards renew at their expiration date at which time personal information is verified and all fines and charges are to be paid in full.

2.3   Non-resident library cards are available to those who live outside Escambia County and do not qualify for a free card.  Non-resident cards are available for an annual fee of $50.

Non-resident library cards renew every year at which time personal information is verified and all fines and charges are to be paid in full.

 

2.4   Library patrons are responsible for all items checked out on their card. If the card is lost or stolen,

    1. Notify the library immediately*
    2. Replacement cards are issued at a cost of $3 with proper ID

*Patrons are responsible for any items checked out on their card prior to the card being reported lost or stolen.

2.5   As a courtesy to our patrons, the library can issue a One-Day Patron Card for those who have forgotten their card when visiting the library.  The cost for this service is $1 and allows patrons to check out materials and use the public computers.*

2.6   As a courtesy to visitors who are interested in public computer use only, the library can issue a Computer Guest Pass . The cost for this pass is $1 and is good for one day.*

* All proceeds from One-Day Patron Cards and Computer Guest Passes go to provide library services. 

 

Section 3 – Getting a library card

3.1   Adults (age 18+) and youth (ages 13-17) may apply for a library card by:

    1. Completing a library card application, and
    2. Providing a valid photo ID with their current physical address such as a FL Driver’s License or FL ID card.

3.2   Youth (ages 13-17) and juveniles (ages 0-12) may apply for a library card when their parent or legal guardian (with proper ID) accompanies them to the library.
